Withdrawal (partial cash distribution of money in the account) 

If available, a prefilled form will be provided when a partial withdrawal is requested from an account.

Note: A distribution may be subject to income taxes, a 10% federal early withdrawal penalty and contractual withdrawal charges.  Federal tax laws and the terms of your employer’s plan may restrict distributions.  For more information, contact the Client Care Center at 1.800.448.2542.

Distribution reason – Indicate the reason for the distribution. 

  • Separation from service -  You will need to indicate the date you separated from service.
  • Reason for separation from service (termination, no longer working for the employer, early retirement or normal retirement). 
    Indicate if you separated from service during or after the year you turned 55.
  • In-service withdrawal – If your plan allows them, you will be directed to the next page. 
  • Permanent and total disability – You will need to provide the date that the disability became permanent.
    - The date that you terminated employment.
    - You will need to attach a completed AIG Retirement Services Proof of Disability form (call the Client Care Center at 1.800.448.2542 and request from VL 8830) or Social Security Administration documentation.
  • Spousal beneficiary – Account was left to you by your spouse.
  • Non-spousal beneficiary – Account was left to you by a AIG Retirement Services account holder and you are not the spouse of the decedent. 
  • Non-qualified deferred annuity – Contact your financial professional to get additional information on what a non-qualified deferred annuity (NQDA) is. 
  • Alternate payee under qualified domestic relations order (QDRO) - A qualified domestic relations order (QDRO) is a court order used to divide assets. It can either be a separate court order or it can be incorporated into a divorce decree and requires transfer of all or part of an account to an alternate payee. The alternate payee can be a former spouse, child or dependant.  Contact your financial professional for more information.   

Once the “Distribution Reason” is selected the screen requires you to select:

  • Tax withholding – AIG Retirement Services may be required to withhold federal income tax.  Note: if withholding is required, 20% will be withheld; otherwise a mandatory 10% will be withheld unless advised otherwise.  State tax may be withheld if mandatory at the required rate .  If it is not required, no withholding will be taken unless advised otherwise.
  • Checks can be mailed to the address of record or a temporary address, which can be indicated on the form. Click “Submit” to have a PDF of the prefilled form displayed.  You can download and print the form.  You will need to complete any sections that were not prefilled, obtain any necessary signatures, and sign and submit the form to AIG Retirement Services for processing.


Hardship/unforeseen emergency

Employees who are still employed may qualify to request funds from the account due to economic hardship.  Distributions may be subject to income taxes, a 10% federal early withdrawal penalty and contractual withdrawal charges.  Additionally, federal tax laws and the terms of your employer’s plan may restriction distributions.

  • You will need to indicate why you are requesting a hardship/unforeseen emergency withdrawal.  You may be required to provide supporting documentation when you submit your form.  Additionally you may be required to obtain additional signatures.
  • Tax withholding  - AIG Retirement Services may be required to withhold federal income tax.  Note: if withholding is required, 20% will be withheld; otherwise, a mandatory 10% will be withheld unless advised otherwise.  State tax may be withheld if mandatory at the required rate .  If it is not required, no withholding will be taken unless advised otherwise. 
  • Checks can be mailed to the address of record or a temporary address, which can be indicated on the form. 
  • Click “Submit” to have a PDF of the prefilled form displayed.  You can download and print the form.  You will need to complete any sections that were not prefilled, obtain any necessary signatures, and sign and submit the form to AIG Retirement Services for processing. 


Surrender (total distribution of money in the account – account will be closed)

Beneficiary change

Some groups allow for online update of beneficiary information.  This can be accessed by going the plan summary page and accessing the option from the menu.  If a form is required a PDF of the form can be downloaded and printed.

Name change 

Used to make administrative changes on your account such as:

  • Name change
  • Update address and telephone number 
  • Request a correction to the Social Security number that is on file ( a copy of the Social Security card will need to be submitted) 
  • Request a correction of the date of birth that is on file (a copy of your driver’s license or birth certificate will need to be submitted)
  • For non-qualified deferred annuity (NQDA) ownership change (see form for listed requirements)
  • Delivery option election – Personal Deliver-e (to go paperless or receive account information in printed format)
